Diana Gabaldon – author of the Highland-Saga
Outlander will be a huge topic at RingCon 15. We have
already announced four headliners - Sam
Heughan (Jamie Fraser), Graham McTavish (Dougal MacKenzie), Gary Lewis (Colum MacKenzie) and Duncan Lacroix (Murtagh Fraser) -from the TV-series, but
now we add a very special guest: Diana
Gabaldon, the author of the Highland-Saga,
is coming to RingCon 15!
About Diana Gabaldon:
Born on January 11, 1952, in Williams, Arizona, professor of
Marine Biology, married, mother of a son who is a published author as well, and
two daughters, author of the „Jamie & Claire“ series, which has
been translated into more than two dozen languages – that's Diana
Gabaldon in a few keywords. In her own words, the story of her success begins
like this:
“Well, it was all an accident, is what it
was. I wasn't trying to get published; I wasn't even going to show it to
anyone. I just wanted to write a book – any kind of book”. It was an old (even then) Doctor Who episode, in which the Doctor
picks up a kilted Highland Scot as his companion, that triggered the crucial
bit of inspiration and marked the beginning of a path that first led to the publication
of her first novel, Outlander, in
1992 – and then on to a worldwide phenomenon.
By now there are eight novels in the Jamie & Claire saga, complemented by the stories about
gentleman detective Lord John Grey. 25 million people all over the globe have
been buying Diana Gabaldon's books about 18th century Highland Scot Jamie
Fraser and his time-traveling wife Claire – reason enough for Hollywood
to take notice of the material. Fortunately for the fans who have been waiting
patiently for a screen adaptation, Terry Dresbach, wife of Battlestar Galactica helmsman Ron D.
Moore, is one of Jamie Fraser's most ardent admirers. And so in October 1913,
the cameras started rolling for the first season of Outlander – the TV series, which also became an
instant international hit.
By now, the production of the second season, based on the second
novel, Dragonfly in Amber, is in
full swing, while the author is working on the ninth novel of the series.
RingCon is a convention with a long tradition which has
