Album des Monats April 2016 - Golden Elliphant

Elliphant ist einer der gehyptesten Künstlerinnen der letzten Jahre und eine der wenigen, die den Sprung von Nische zum Mainstream-Publikum geschafft hat. Am 25. März veröffentlichte die quirlige Schwedin nun ihr Album „Living Life Golden“. Die gebürtige Stockholmerin ist ein echtes Ausnahme-Talent. Nicht nur, weil sie durch ihre extrovertierte, freche Persönlichkeit auffällt, sondern weil sie vor allem musikalisch eine Breite an Sound-Einflüssen kombiniert, die ihresgleichen sucht.

Zwischen Elektro, Dubstep, Hiphop, Reggae, Dancehall und dem jamaikanischem Patois bewegen sich ihre Songs und haben damit schon für Aufmerksamkeit bei Größen wie Skrillex und Diplo gesorgt, die sie prompt für diverse Kollaborationen als Vocal-Unterstützung gebucht und sie mit auf Europa-Tournee genommen haben.

Aber nicht nur live konnte Elliphant im Vorprogramm von Diplos EDM-Projekt Major Lazer auf die Unterstützung ihres Förderers bauen: Auch auf ihrem Album ließ es sich der Produzent nicht nehmen und schneiderte ihr einen Song nach Maß. Als weitere Gäste konnte die Skandinavierin bereits erwähnten Skrillex, Twin Shadow, Mo und Azealia Banks gewinnen. Beste Voraussetzungen also, um für die nötige Aufmerksamkeit im Business zu sorgen.

Dies sind die Stimmen ihres Labels Sony Music. Und treffen bereits absolut ins Schwarze. Elliphant klingt schon stark wie die markanten Sound-Mixes von momentanen Musikgrößen und Charthelden wie Major Lazer, Kygo oder Yall. Aber wenn Diplo persönlich dahiner steckt, wen wundert der Klang dann?

Auf jeden Fall kommt Elliphant derbe hochwertig auf den Schulhof gesprungen und mischt sich perfekt unter die heutigen Chartsounds, deswegen gefällt mir ihr neues Album "Living Life Golden" auch so sehr. Außerdem könnt ihr ab sofort Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Nicki Minaj und wie sie all heißen und Bad Girls sein wollen vergessen, denn Elliphant, und auch ihre Feature-Partnerin MØ, zeigen der Welt, wer hier richtig schmutzig ist. So, dass es sogar Trailerpark die Schamesröte ins Gesicht treiben könnte.

Das Album beginnt mit starkem Dubstep und einer rotzfrechen Göre. In "Step Down" macht sie klar, wer der Boss ist, inklusive coolen Fluchwörtern. Und das gefällt mir. Ich finde es gut, dass die Musikwelt offener für freche Mädchen wird.

Und melodiös mit coolen Beats geht das vonstatten, dass ich bereits beim ersten Song total gefesselt bin und locker mitträller.


Der Song "Everybody" feat. Azealia Banks startet mit diesem Klingeln und dann einem Skandieren und dem Sound immer auf der Eins. Bis dann Elliphant eine Art Refrain anstimmt.

"Love Me Badder" könnte auch von Akon kommen. Auf jeden Fall die Backroundvocals.

Der traurigere Klang ihrer Stimme bei dieser, etwas anderen, Ballade und der gezogene Beat schenken mir eine Gänsehaut und mein Kopf wippt schon wieder im Takt mit. Respekt.


Wahnsinn! Auch "Not Ready" trifft den Punkt genau und zwar mit diesem Summer-Reggae-Rhythm und der geil verzerrten Stimme. Dichtere Lyrics und nachdenkliche Aussagen bieten noch mehr Atmosphäre und wirken noch cooler. Damit wurde genau der Spirit des richtigen Reggae aufgegriffen.

Ich gehe jede Wette ein, dass dieser Song bei Auskopplung der Sommerhit des Jahres wird. Außerdem finde ich es bemerkenswert, dass Elliphant als Schwedin tatsächlich wie eine Rastafaria klingt.
Das Plattenknistern am Ende des Tracks bringt nochmal Atmosphäre.


Weiter geht es mit "Love Me Long" feat. Major Lazer & Gyptian. Ein bissel traurig und nachdenklich klingt der Song, ein bissel nach Schmerz. Melancholie is mine!

Der Flow ist richtig cool und man kann prima mitgehen.


"Hit And Run" erinnert mich am Anfang an ein anderes Lied. Das Intro ist fast genauso. Es liegt mir auf der Zunge, jedoch will es nicht spruchreif werden. Darüber muss ich noch überlegen, aber ich liefer es nach, sobald ich die Lösung habe. Abgesehen davon ist es ein cooler Song, der mich absolut mitreißt.

Elliphants Stimme ist in "Thing Called Life" noch verzerrter. Das kommt cool, genauso wie der Sound, der diesmal nicht so heftig aus den Boxen pumpt, abgesehen vom satten Bass.

Wieder absolut melodiös und klasse zum Mithören und Mitsingen. Besonders die Bridge gefällt mir.


"Where Is Home" feat. Twin Shadow beginnt mit einer Orgel. Ich finde es klasse, dass die Orgeln von der aktuellen Musik wiederentdeckt werden. Ja, die Keyboardorgeln, but who cares? Der Sound ist schon derbe cool.

Ich kann jetzt schon sagen, dass ich das Album locker rauf und runter hören kann. Easy.


Mit Beatboxing fängt "One More" feat. MØ an. Diese zwei Stimmen schaffen eine Atmosphäre, die ihres Gleichen sucht.

Das Lied entwickelt sich in ganz andere Richtungen, als ich beim ersten Hören gedacht hatte. Man findet jedes Mal eine andere Stelle, die man toll findet und kann sich kaum satt hören. Dazu schrecken die beiden überhaupt nicht davor zurück, wild und dreckig zu fluchen. Genau das geht dann im Musikvideo weiter. Die beiden fahren in einem Taxi durch London und sind einfach wild. Ab und zu tanzen sie und lungern auf der Straße rum.


In "Player Run" klingt Elliphant wieder so wie tief aus der Bronx. Frech und wie ein gefährlicher US-Rapper. ;-)

"Spoon Me" feat. Skrillex klingt, naja, nach Skrillex ;-)
Der Sound wild und dicht, genauso wie der Gesang, der später wild verzerrt wird.

Den Text dieses Songs kann ich nicht unbedingt hier einfügen, denn im Song geht es richtig schlüpfrig zu. Das sieht unseren Schweden eh ähnlich, die viel offener mit ihrer Sexualität umgehen, als andere auf der Welt. Allerdings habe ich auch kaum jemanden, der nicht aus dem R&B-Raum stammt, derart direkt über das Eine singen hören. Nicht einmal Madonna und Lady Gaga ;-)


Der Letzte Song auf dem Album heißt genauso wie der Albumtitel. "Living Life Golden" klingt tatsächlich voller Zufriedenheit und ein bissel Hoffnung schwingt mit. Jedenfalls interpretiere ich dies gerne in den Sound hinein.


Elliphants neues Album gefällt mir unheimlich gut. Nicht nur, dass es absolut hörbar, fast schon süffig hörbar, ist, es spiegelt genau den Zeitgeist der jungen Generation wider. Diese YOLO- und TGIF-Einstellung, die sich in den späten 2000er Jahren entwickelt hat, und die für die (grob geschätzt) 13 bis 35 jährigen fast zu einer Religion wurde. Die Lust auf Party, Stuss bauen, Quatsch reden, sich keinerlei Regeln unterwerfen, nur der einen: Spaß zu haben. Genau das lebt Elliphant in jedem Takt dieses Albums.
